Birmingham delivered a week of European excellence (10–16 August): Stefan Nillessen (NED) kicked to 1500m gold in 3:35.70; Georgia Hunter Bell gave Great Britain a rapturous home win in the women's 1500m; Jakob Ingebrigtsen reclaimed the 5000m title; Nadia Battocletti won her sixth European gold in the women's 5000m; and Amanal Petros set a championship record of 2:09:11 in the men's marathon, with Finland's Alisa Vainio dominant in the women's race.
